some fun starting...
« on: Friday,October 13, 2017, 02:01:21 AM »

I had a recent issue trying to start 2112P TCS. while rebuilding everything else I was not too bothered but as I'm getting near completion (I must post progress and pics) it was time to get the engine set up properly. but just would not start, spent a couple of weeks on and off trying to sort it  checked everything ignition, spark, timing carbs .... hmm but just no luck! before she would burst into life with just a touch of the starter. I looked at the plugs and they weren't wet, this confused me for a while. It then dawned on me in my haste to fill up the tanks when I changed them a coupe of months ago I put in half a gallon of diesel in with the petrol :headbanger: :headbanger:as I did the same with the lawn mower even more :headbanger: :headbanger: serves me right not labelling the fuel cans properly. fuel drained and refilled started straight away.....I wondered why it smoked a bit last time I ran it too....! as it started on petrol ok and then went on to run on the petrol diesel mix  :-[
fules cans properly labeled too.

Almost did the same thing with my fuel cans with 2cycle gas/oil mixture. Used to race karts and a Lotus Exige S & had 5 gallon fuel cans with 2 cycle mixture near the 93 octane fuel cans.  Can’t tell you how many times I almost poured the wrong fuel into the wrong engine. Finally realized I should stop using my memory and placed big blue painters tap on the oil/gas mixture.

Glad it wasn’t more serious.

Yes, photos please!

Burning diesel in a gasoline engine can cause damage.  Drain and flush thoroughly and hope for the best.

Ditto what JB said . I also only store ethanol-free gas.
I don’t know if your state has it but my vechicles run perfectly
On it.

Missfuelling modern cars is an issue. But older engines no real issues even up to to early 90’s on a lot of motors. A lot of the issues relate to the seals and fuelling systems.

Well, an acquaintance of mine accidentally filled his old school BMW airhead twin with diesel.  Started fine because the carbs were still full of gas.  Ate up a head gasket within 60 miles and they just never fail on these engines.

Well yes I would agree not good to run for too long with a diesel petrol mix, but no real harm done for a short stint, if it will run of course. but does depend on engines. My father in law in the early 90's always used to get in wrong,  so ford escorts and vauxhall Astra's used to get the treatment every now and then, and even his V8 Range Rover and they all kept going ok for years.
