 Kendo,
To check the pattern of the ring and pinion. See link below, download the Dana pdf.

Tried again desperately to get a good pattern, still no joy.

Then I went to lower the muffler rack, success, better than a full inch lower. I did however I forgot to order the heat mat to wrap it with. I did manage to add lightness to the bracket and can now disconnect from the header to tailpipe with pulling only 3 bolts and two nuts. 3 on header and 2 nuts loosened on gearbox mount.
I also tried to mount the shift gate on this gearbox but had two problems, first the lower gearbox mount brack occupies the lower mount hole. no biggie there , cut and add a doubler to make up the dimension. Second , a dealbreaker. the crossshaft was drilled out for a shifter . the size of the hole to large for me to continue.   :headbanger:
Tomorrow, I'll probably pull the gearbox out and fix the gearbox seal leak and re-install. then fight another day on the original gearbox.

Can you sleeve that hole down to what you need for that indexing pin?

Kendo,
Thanks you got me on track again.

I could do that or just swap out The rear cover, or just the control bar itself. 🤔😁👍👍
One is a 336/56 and this one is a /66 , I’ll do so reading but it should be interchangeable.

Started about 9am pulling the gearbox, good thing I did it sooner, rather than after a few test drives.
I pulled off the inspection cover just to be greeted by some gear lube.I was amazed how much it held back. Thats when I had no doubts that the gearbox needed to come back out. found the problem, the new shaft seal inner spring was wrapped around the forward shaft.
Now about 11, it's ready to go back in.  I wished that I would have been putting the original gearbox back in, but I can't seem to get it right just yet. At least I'll be back to road testing so I can pull something else back out. :FUNNY:

Glad you found that! Good luck on getting a good wear pattern. I'm thankful that when I rebuilt my NG3, I didn't have to worry about that because the pinion depth was not adjustable. All I had to worry about was crown wheel back lash and bearing pre-load.

   BDA,

 That's what I'm thinking.
    However,
The last time I was in here checking the backlash and the pull test I had a satisfactory pattern. I'm checking my old post somewhere between pg 50 and 80.  Just to be on the safe side, better to have an abundance of caution than a pile of parts.

  Good day 😁
Finished installing the gearbox, ready for tomorrow’s test drive and see if it wet the floor in the morning. I would have been finished earlier but I took a two hour nap/ lunch/ pool break😁🤣

Test ride complete. The good news is that the gearbox doesn't leak any more. Anywhere :beerchug:

The source of another leak is the forward crankcase pulley. It had a new seal on it and hadn't leaked prior, so I may be looking for another 843 crank pulley and replacing the seal.

Another concern is that my brakes are atrocious. Standing on then to come to a rolling 20mph stop and yet only on the last foot it seem to grab.  when bleeding them I noticed the front discs would be had to turn afterwards, back brakes re drum.

Carb needs adjustment sometimes seeing light Black smoke billow out. Ill check the plugs also. light black soot at exhaust.

.70 master from moss motors .

I’ll have to ask Lotus Joe to interject those 10 pages into this thread one day.

I don’t remember, maybe from moss also . I know I bought the spitfire rotors there.
I’ll dig a bit more tomorrow. Rear brake pads from RD. So I could have gotten them there.
I remember off the top of my head about green pads which I didn’t buy.
  Appreciate your help JB .

Thanks turbo I’ll keep that in mind.
