I'm very interested in your decision to install dynamatt and then felt? My own project will be at a similar stage in a couple of months and I'm trying to decide on carpet and felt. Any insights to your thinking on this?

I don't mean to horn in here, but I thought I'd describe my experience.


I got my carpets from AutoMat (autointeriors.biz). The carpet came with a pad (of some modern material - nothing as fancy as dynamat). Of course I can't compare my setup with Europa73's, but I'm satisfied with my carpet situation. One thing dynamat may be better for is if you get water in your car - it may not retain it like mine does. I wouldn't think it would make much difference in sound or temperature insulation. But then, I may have missed the boat entirely and dynamat makes more of a difference than I expect.

I don't think you are missing BDA. From everything I have read, butyl (dynamat) does not stop sound, it reduces vibration. It is great for bumping stereos.  Mass loaded vinyl, due to it's density is much better for sound deadening when spaced with a layer of foam. Most higher end cars use this method.

Hi all,

I have done a number of restorations with dynamat and underlay.

Dynamat does give the car a very solid feel and gets rid of a great deal of vibration.

Using both dynamat and underly does give the car a great solid feel.

Inching closer to the finish line.

Got the center console in today and wired up the new window switches.

I know they are far from original - but - could not resist - and - they work great as foot well lighting :-)

I hand polished the wheels by hand - not fun - but I think the time and scuffed knuckles were worth it.

I know they are not standard - but - I do like the way they look on the car.

They are vintage HRE 505's

Luckily they were on the car when I bought them - but almost black with dirt and grime.

Going to HRE's website, they say the smallest 505s they make are 18"! Is that what your're running? That's got to be the largest diameter wheels I've heard of on a Europa!

These rims are over 10 years old. back then they made these down to 16", this is the size I have.

The Interior is getting close to completion :-)

Wanted a vintage radio - but - found them costly.

Was able to get a bluetooth amp and speakers for less then the vintage radio.

The finished install looks a little odd at first - bit gives me a great spot to mount my phone.
