Windscreen Size

So, I have a '47' replica body which is a bit of an unknown. I have a windscreen from a '72 Twin Cam which I offered up to the hole, and it's at least 2" too narrow.

So, is there more than one size of windscreen, is the difference that I have a rubbered in screen and the rubbers will take up a chunk of space, or have I got a big problem? Do Banks or anyone else still supply windscreen rubbers?

I'll go and do some measuring, and hopefully that will be useful for comparison purposes.

2" out sounds very wrong, but I guess you'd already figured that out 

There was talk a few months/year ago about some replica screens that either didn't or were very poor fits, but even so 2" sounds odd. I'll admit I thought the S2 & TC had the same basic pattern, just different fitting options but I've no evidence to back that up. 

Where abouts is the 2" coming in, is it windscreen depth or width ? The rubber won't take up that much of course but we could compare with approx. measurements from our screens and guess if it's an oddball screen or a body molding problem. My car is a '72TC with the OEM style silver plastic section and from memory I'd say the thickness at the base of the section fitting between body & glass is no more than 1/4", if that.

There is only one windscreen used on all the Europas.  They were originally made by Pilkington and Pilkington Classic makes them still.  There were some knock-off windscreens out of China for a while.  They would sort of fit the later glue-in Europas but not the earlier ones with the rubber seal.  They were way out, on the order of two inches.  So look at your windscreen.  If it is marked "Pilkington" or "Triplex", it is an original screen.  If not...

Thanks for the replies. I had another look tonight, and it's less than I remembered. Then I dropped it while trying to measure the gap. Oops.

I am pretty sure the windscreen for an S-2 and a Twin Cam are different. I recall the window frame on a Twin Cam is wider than an S-2. The Twin Cam glues in while the S-2 is secured with a gasket. The parts book however have the basic same number with the exception of a "Z" added to the end of the number for the Twin Cam. I'm pretty sure this has come up in the past, but can't find the proper reference.

Later S2s are glued in as well.
