Chassis removal, final check.

Hi,

Day off + wife at work + kids at the childminder's = chassis removal.

Just a quick check that I haven't missed anything.  The engine, radiator and fuel tank were disconnected before I got the car. Working from back to front.

2 bolts at the rear of the chassis
6 bolts by the seats
2 seatbelt set screws
2 set screws just behind the dash
2 heater hoses
Handbrake pivot. I couldn't find another set screw on the passenger side.
Accelerator pivot
Pedal box. 4 nuts underneath. There were four on the other side too.
Brake clevis.
Steering UJ
2 bolts on the bottom plate at the very front.

I still have to get to the speedo cable. Is it better to disconnect it at the transaxle or the guage?

Disconnect it at the gauge. Watch it as you lower the frame or raise the body.

Thanks for the help. It needed a bit of "persuasion" but it gave up its hold in the end. On first inspection the rear of the chassis and the suspension arms look in good condition but the top of the tee section looks pretty corroded but I was expecting that.

On to the next stage.

Mine had an extra bolt at the front that was a devil to find.  I had to get down into the passenger foot well and reach up.  Imagine fitting the handbrake pivot in a mirror position, there was an extra bolt where the pivot would bolted be on a LHD.

I also had a plate bolted on the floor of the passenger side connecting the floor to the chassis.

I assume you have removed the steering rack and brake master cylinder already.

Just done the reverse. Putting the shell on the chassis of 4688R.

I forgot to take the plastic plugs off the heater pipes and the two on the hand brake pivot threads. Jacking up the front only gave enough room to remove the hand brake ones, and lever off the heater pipe ones and use a long 4 spike retrival thingy to get them out of the tunnel.

You have to jack the chassis up the last 2" as the chassis is not level with the body. Also the radiator tube is the highest thing to go into the engine bay.

Now that the body and chassis are joined after separation very many years ago in Chicago, the real progress can start.
