For Sale: 1974 Europa Special
« on: Tuesday,June 28, 2016, 04:57:53 AM »
I am selling my 1974 Europa Special. With other projects going on the car sits in the garage. The car does need work, mostly cosmetic, the car does run. Interior isn't the best, but it's complete. Please email me at Labrodf@gmail.com if interested. Thank you, Dennis

Dennis,

It looks like a nice car, but I think you need to add some details and more pictures.

Are you listing it anywhere else?

Hi BDA,

Thanks for the tip.. I will go ahead and do that. I have the Europa listed on CL locally.

The car sat and did not move for about 6-7 years. When I purchased it couple years back, some work was done to get it back on the road: New Clutch, carbs were rebuilt, headers/exhaust, new tires, brakes, electronic ignition.

I am the third owner and the PO who owned the car since 76 gave me a folder with some history. The PO mentioned he purchased the car from a fellow that worked for Porsche, and the main reason the first owner sold the car was because Porsche did not want the Europa around. In the folder I have a copy of the old "bill of sale" and if I am not mistaken the PO bought the car in 76 for $6.3k.

The only thing that is unclear to me is the car was painted black at one point, I even have pictures of the car from the 80's and 90's and the car was black then. The color code is L12 which is Lagoon Blue and as I mentioned cosmetically the car needs work and as the black paint comes off you clearly see that black was painted over the blue. The PO mentioned that he always remember the car being black.

If there are any other questions please feel free to ask.

According to the VIN plate, the paint colour is L12, Lagoon Blue.

Another Lotus error, or a respray?

The best way to tell is under the trim panels on the doors.

Alex in Norfolk.

Very nice car! It was apparently a respray as the blue shows through where the paint was scuffed on the inside of the body work where the boot closes.

I know you're trying to get rid of it, but I notice you don't have an air filter installed. I have most of the parts for for an original air filter assy. if you're interested...

Hi Dennis,
I took the liberty of converting your PDFs to pictures.

Thank you Joe, the jpeg files were to large.

BDA, 4129R- yes definitely a re-spray, there is many locations on where the blue is showing. I appreciate the offer, but I failed to mention (I don't sell cars, only enjoy them) I do have the stromberg air box, the original air cleaner assembly, the vacuum canister, cross over pipes and original exhaust manifold, obviously all included in the sale..I will take more pictures of these later today.

I really do hate flippers:

http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/5669216617.html

At quite a mark-up as well, unless of course the price quoted in the first post wasn't the eventual sale ?

I can't argue with the practice because of course it goes on everywhere otherwise we wouldn't have a motor trade. I suppose as long as the original seller is happy with the price paid, that's all there is to it ?
