Steering Wheel Project
« on: Wednesday,August 12, 2015, 10:10:14 AM »
I have a friend who has manufactured a very affordable line of vintage looking steering wheels. He was not aware how close one of their models matched the original Europa wheel until my son showed him a side by side photo in my car.

It does have a slightly thicker leather covering, but not too bulky feel.

I believe he would be willing to drill the wheel to accept our original center horn push and match the mounting holes.  Since hubs can be expensive and usually odd looking due to their bulky universal nature, I would like to see if we can reuse the riveted hub.

Does anyone have a crappy steering wheel with a good hub that I can use as a prototype.  I am willing to pay for it and shipping of' course.

If the modifications are simple (drill press, tap and go, I hope)  I'll share the instructions and if it comes out nicely I'll be sure to pass on all the good info.

I'll get some photos up shortly.

I drilled out the rivets on my S1 steering wheel, no problem.  Used stainless screws when reassembling it.
