Good and bad news this weekend. I decided to put some oil in and connect up the starter motor, take out the plugs and turn the engine over. So two problems, the starter motor wasn't engaging the fly wheel and was just spinning. Not sure why. And the sump plug was leaking terribly. Unfortunately it turns out the sump plug was cross threaded and wouldn't go in or out. Fortunately the shell is still away so it was restively easy to remove the engine but removing the sump left a colossal oily mess on my garage floor. Fortunately I have a spare engine and sump phew.
