The head is like gold. I am buying a new one from QED in the UK. With all the cams, valves, Weber 40DCOEs etc, it is costing around £6,500.

The gearbox I think comes from a Renault 17, so scrapyards are worth hunting.

Good luck.

There are a couple of companies that can convert your Stromberg TC head to Weber spec.

While some, rare R17s use the 365 box, Lotus fit their own fifth gear.  AFAIK the Lotus fifth gear parts are now unobtainium.  Most of the Renault transaxles leak a small amount of oil, slowly dropping their oil level over time.  Fifth gear is tucked way at the back of the tranny and is usually the first to suffer when the oil level falls.  It's very important to check fifth gear's condition when buying a used transaxle (that and chipped ring gear teeth).

There are other five speed alternatives that are easier to find (read cheaper).

Mh, maybe there are Options with the gearbox, but i like to Keep it original. My try is to build the car as i like, but in a way that it can build back to originality. So because of this i don't like to destroy the original head. I know that this head is in very good condition. I have found only omnitech which can convert it to a weber head.

That tells me what happened to the 5th gear on my NG-3!
