Spax shock question

Installing a new pair of Spax on the rear. These have a hard plastic disc about the size of a quarter, a little larger on the rod, resting on the top of the body.  It just sits there loose so as the shock moves it will travel up and down. The only way to get it off would be to dismantle the top of the rod or break the disc. What purpose does this disc serve? Its not present on the shocks they are replacing or on other Spax I've seen. Documentation with the shocks does not speak to it.

Could it be an anti-bottom out disc?  My Koni have a rubber bushing on the shaft.

How bout a picture.  Do your Spax have rubber boots over the rod?  My car has the boots over the rod, they are Spax shocks.

My take on the disk is it is a scraper for the rod.  Helps keeps the rod clean and therefore helping to keep the dirt and dust off the top and working its way down to the top of the shock seal........

It's not the 'anti-bottom out' stop, or bump stop. That is a rubber piece that is snug on the rod and presses up against the collett on top that holds the top of the spring.

These shocks did not come with the rubber sleeves, although the older shocks coming out do have them. That disk being some type of scraper makes sense.
