1969 Lotus Europa Spyder Special - $8,500 (southern california)

1969 Lotus Europa Spyder Special. Europa's are notoriously difficult to get in and out of and if you are taller than 5'2", can be uncomfortable to drive. this custom spyder corrects these issues. made for taller drivers who still want to enjoy one of Colin Chapman's finest creations. this S2 Renault powered Lotus runs well, but has been off the road for years, and will need more sorting out before it is roadworthy again. the dash has been modified to accept a Lancia Appia dash with gives an Italian flare, and looks right at home. seats, trim, lights do not come with the car. vintage period alloy wheels included. during modification the vin plate was lost, so for that reason we will call this a "parts car", although it should be possible to re-register the car as the factory stamped frame is retained. off the california dmv records, so no dmv penalties. solid california car. the windshield is inset inside the front cowl, and can accept any number of replacement windshields due to its construction. vintage automotive trades considered. the orange car is the basis behind the modifications, as an example. worldwide shipping available

lol, I spent a month trying to convince the guy to sell me the wheels off of it (I had replacements in the truck) but no dice.
The windshield goes waaaaay down, was never trimmed to size correctly. Price is completely insane considering I paid $7k for a much better shape S1 with paperwork only a few miles away earlier this year. This guy has a ton of wack stuff that only a few people care about, so he posts outlandish prices and nothing ever sells.

Picking up someone else's long abandoned, heavily modified project is a nightmare in the making. One would have to really be into this guy's vision to have a go at making something out of this. To that end, I found the pics of the orange sample car to be decidedly unattractive. Hard pass.

Those wheels are period cool, though.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

If you really like the wheels, go over to lotuselan.net and look up this thread

"ELAN S3 Restoration, Before and After- the story continues"

In North Carolina, wheels look the same and he may be inclined to trade for a set of Elan wheels.  Worth a shot.

If it had a great drivetrain and running gear another body could be found.
But much better cars sell for a LOT less.
