Seat runner position in S2
« on: Tuesday,August 27, 2024, 07:22:31 AM »
My S2 came with alternative seats bolted directly to the floor. I'm going to re-install seat runners but have no idea of the correct position as the original holes have been filled. Does anyone have a reference point and distances I can use to locate them? It may be the seat holes I've got will work but I'd like to be sure. Thanks.

There should be steel bobbins in the floor the rails bolt to. IFF the po didn’t remove them, and you can’t see them from above, you might find them by looking underneath.

Bobbins??? Did the early S2's have bobbins? Mine a type 54. I just had holes in my floor. I used some large fender washers.

I can take some measurement from below if you need.

Any measurements would be useful. Thanks.

I'll have another look for these bobbins, but if they're there it's not obvious  :(

No bobbins in my type 54, just holes with fender washers.
I would like to suggest that you dry fit the new seats to the location that you like and drill holes based on that location. There is enough variation of interior (carpet and such) and the seats themselves that 3rd party measurements may not align with your car.
I am working that area, as we speak, on my car. I found stress cracks around some of the bolt holes. I re-inforced that area with about 3 layers of new glass (tapered edges to distribute the stress) to repair and prevent.

Just measured mine on 0453. driver on left
INBD side 25" back from pedal assy base bracket to the front side of rail. (Seat rail pushed back all the way.)
OTBD side  18" from fenderwell to front of rail.
I didn't have bobbins either but very large washers.

Sorry for the inches. I'm in a country that is backwards.
I used button head too with aluminum washers. Some parking lots here have SUV speed bumps that are brutal. Aluminum so there can be some conformity/give instead of cracking.

Thanks for the info.

I've had another look, and no bobbins. The holes drilled here are for the replacement seats which were bolted directly to the floor. I know my "true" seat frames don't fit this bolt pattern, but hopefully they will agree somewhat with yours (I'll test that when they're back from a little welding) and I get the runners from Banks. Here are some measurements of what I've got.
