WTB Lotus Webber head

The my head has been confirmed as scrap :(

I cant afford a new head and looking at the heads on ebay I am worried they are just gamble if they will ever be usable,

Has anyone got a spare head they could sell me ?

I'm in the UK

I think I remember that someone several years ago did a run of webber TC heads using modern aluminum (aluminium to you :) ) and I think it was a Brit company, but unfortunately I don't remember the company. Dave Bean, in the US, used to make webber heads from Stromberg heads. I heard good things about them but he's gone through some changes and I don't know if he still performs the conversion or if he has any finished ones in stock.

After writing a paragraph that probably doesn't help you much, if it were me, I would ask the guys on the lotuseuropa yahoo group. I'll bet someone there would be able to be a lot more helpful than I've been!  :P

Check with the Elan guys also on Elan.net. There are probably more Elans in the UK than Europas.

Out of curiosity, were the European Europas standard with Weber or Stromberg heads.

I believe the Brit cars were all weber heads. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

No, they sold Stromberg equipped engines in UK as well.

There were certainly Stromberg-equipped Elans in UK, but I'm not so sure about Europas. I think by the time the TC came along they were using Dellorto carbs, and the Stromberg was Federal only.
The Europa didnt have Webers.

Good luck with finding a Weber head. They come rarely up for sale here in the US and when they do, the asking price is between $1k - $3k if I remember correctly. It may be cheaper to find a good Stromberg head and convert to Stromberg Zenith carbs.

Very interesting, Mike. That's a very clean looking conversion. Definately deserves a closer look.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

There is a fellow in Az. that sent his Stromberg TC head from his Plus 2 Elan to McCoy.   Took a while but holy smokes it is nice.   The Az. builder is picky as anyone can be and I've heard no complaints.

I did some poking around and it seems as though Omnitech is really on the ball with their Twin Cam work. John McCoy seems a meticulous professional, and the Stromberg to Weber conversion he has created is perhaps the nicest and most thoroughly engineered available. From a performance standpoint, likely better than the factory Weber head. I haven't found any indication of what the conversion may cost though. He has also developed the ability to fit reliable valve seals to the Twin Cam head.
