Twin Cam value
« on: Monday,November 27, 2023, 05:29:12 AM »
I have a Weber head Twin Cam engine that is currently installed in my ‘67 Elan DHC. It was installed a few years ago while the car belonged to a friend of mine. The original engine had seized, and this was put in its place.  I subsequently bought the car and original engine, and then had the original professionally rebuilt.
After I put the originally engine back in, I will be selling the other one, but I have no idea what it’s worth.
The Weber head was rebuilt by a guy who specializes in TC’s, and was rebuilt to big valve specs.  The engine itself was reassembled by myself and a mechanic friend. The block was cleaned and tested prior to assembly, and all of the clearances (bearing, valve, ring, etc.) were properly checked.  It has a six bolt crank, but I don’t remember if it had square or round caps.  I will check that out after it is pulled. Pretty sure it has “B” cams, but I will check that out as well.  Currently around 600 miles on the engine.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Anyone interested?
Engine is in Minnesota, but I can crate it and ship it anywhere.
I also have the Europa alternator pulley, but not the Europa cams.

You would need to change the inlet cam, cut a groove in the head and cam cover for the cam oil seal which means head off, and change the water pump for a Europa pump, front exit not side exit.

Europa pump housings are made from unobtanium.

Thanks for info.  I had forgotten the extent of the mods.  A number of years ago I purchased a '68 Elan FHC that had a Europa engine in it, so I knew they were somewhat interchangeable.

Presumably you've advertised the engine in the Elan, Escort, Cortina, Lotus 7 world?

My advice would be to sell the engine while it can be seen installed & running by a potential buyer.
That way, the buyer can properly assess the state of the engine. He might want to do a leak down test or compression test, for instance.

If it's just an engine on a pallet, most people will put it into the "ran when parked" category and value it accordingly - less money.
My $0.02

What block is the engine? 120E, 701M, etc. Pictures? Maybe a video of it running would help. Thanks.

681F6015 “L” block.
Pictures and video can be seen through this link:

I’m thinking that $5900 would be a fair price for a running engine
