« on: Sunday,October 29, 2023, 03:52:53 PM »
Could someone please tell me what is the purpose of the two holes & plugs on my 1967 instrument panel?

Well that and the speedometer is no original .  So your guess is as good as mine.  No pun intended.

It very well could be the original speedo, from what I recall this car is a European market S1, so that would be 220 kmh.  The script and bezel are correct for an S1.

But, I don't have any idea about the holes.

Agree that the speedo is likely an original 220 kph one. As far as the plug the S1 owners manual shows nothing there on the dash explanation page.

Nothing there "originally".  Maybe someone added a switch to control driving/fog lights?

S1s were very (very) basic cars.  It was common to add lights, horns, etc. If it was done in period, who's to say it's not also "original"?

Speedo is original to the car.  It was shipped to Germany on 10 October '67.  Originally the car had gnarly reflectors on the rear lower corners outboard of the tail lamps.  The only theory for the holes on the IP that I can conjure up is that they were turn signal dummy lights(?).  Does anyone with a German issue S1 have similar holes/caps?
