Maybe, just maybe, Beehive springs for TS head?
« on: Tuesday,September 05, 2023, 05:05:49 PM »
I had given up on finding Beehive springs for my cross-flow TS head.
But after finding that Ford 9/32" stem valves may be used I also tool a look at Ford valve springs.
Started out with Kent 1600 but everything there seems to be for FF and unsuitable.
But the 'Net search threw me into newer vehicles and I found the Zetec set.
Pretty close to my 60/180 target if I am reading this right.
I have sent an email asking for more details.
Sets of 16 so if they will work I am willing to share.  ;)

Ford 2.0 Blacktop Zetec Post 98 Kent Cams Conical Beehive Valve Springs VS60
Type = Conical Beehive Valve Springs
Installed Height mm = 38 (Original 39.5mm, spacers are easy)

Coil Bind mm = 22 OD mm = Conical

I'm initially skeptical about this considering how much smaller the Zetec springs and retainers are compared to your Renault. With much smaller Zetec OD retainers would the Renault rockers operate OK ? Would the Renault spring seats in the head fit the small diameter Zetec springs? Are you sure about the valve diameter? Zetec valves are pretty small.

I have sent off a couple of emails asking for more specs.
I do want to know the inner and outer diameters at each end.
I expect to have to modify the spring seats.

The current trick spring set are from BMC A series engines.
The spring seat area has to be modified but the weight saving are very significant, less than half the Renault spring/mass.
This what I will be doing if I cannot get Beehive to work.

The rocker does not contact the spring retainer, only the end of the valve.
My valves are going to be 9/32" stem. (A hair over 7mm.)
This should also be a bit lighter than the standard 8mm.
