Toasted Twin Cam on eBay!
« on: Wednesday,May 31, 2023, 09:32:58 AM »
Warning, graphic images! Looking at the Sotheby's link in the ad, this was a beautiful car. Sad to see it in this condition.

But the high starting bid is another delusional situation, IMO. Wonder if anyone will step up to try to save it, or if it will be parted out, meaning one less survivor?

Wow! That is sad indeed. Looks like it was a nice Europa.

I wonder if some parting-out has already taken place. We joke here about ashtrays, but I find it curious that this rare and disproportionally valued item is already missing from what is basically a recently restored car. The nose badge is missing as well. Have any other hard-to-find parts been scavenged from this car?
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

Good point! I wondered why the fresh air blower was missing, but it didn't register. Ditto one of the window switches! Oh! and where are the bumpers?

Not to mention the chin spoiler! I sent the seller a note asking about this stuff. Will report back.

EDIT:  Add in the Tach, Headlight switch, shift knob and armrest cover. All key things one would grab when a car's on fire!  ;)

Missing:-

Wipers, front indicators, front and rear bumpers, spoiler, heater fan, window switch, ash tray, spare wheel, luggage box in the engine compartment, alternator, vent grilles to engine lid, LOTUS letters, EUROPA SPECIAL badge, World Champion Car Constructors side badges, rear window and rubber surround, petrol tank flip top caps x 2, console arm rest pad, starter motor, rear engine cover lock, battery, front grille.

What else is missing in parts of the car not seen in the photos?

The wiring loom will be toast.

"Gravy" pieces are included in a box, skimmed by the seller, or "Gone missing" from the tow yard?
Starting bid reflects inordinately high prices being asked for TC engines?
Without the gravy I too would say parts car.

This is what I got back from the seller:

New message from: dr_rocketman (1,458 )

I thought that the insurance will salvage it - so I removed those.
Turned out that they didn't care.
The car is for sale the way it is shown in the pictures (although I have all those parts).
I think chassis, engine + tranny, wheels, seats, etc, are worth over 6K.

Currently listed on the San Diego Craigslist. Looking at it as simply a parts car, it might be worth close to the original $6000 on ebay. The engine and 365 tranny are worth around $5000 by themselves.

Just reread the ad, has a 4 speed tranny,
