Door limit straps

Anyone using door limit straps? My doors hit the inside of the jam when fully open and I want to protect the door edge paint.

I think I saw mention of a foam strip (or something similar) that is supposed to go where the door edge hits the body when fully open.

I'm not aware of anything a foam strip or limiting strap, on the TCs a least. My doors don't generally hit the jam unless they are open quickly without restraining them. I agree that it isn't a comfortable thing to hear when a door does that. It might be nice to glue some foam to stop that but it would probably require you to take your doors off. If that's true, unless you have the brass hinges from Lotus Supplies, you'll have to reinstall your doors from scratch. You might want to weigh that against reminding people to control their door.

I don't have straps, but I did fabricate a set of metal plates to limit opening. One is on the top of the door and the other above the door.

Used rivnuts in fiberglass. Top plate has lip in it to catch lower plate.

That struck a chord. When I think about it there was a dense foam rubber strip down the opening the first time I took the doors off to spray the car. Knowing me in  the 1980s I probably didn't bother putting it back, I'll have to check !

My S2 had fairly thick (and wide) foam strips in the door openings.
Nothing special and it looked like they were very much an afterthought but did seem to do the job.

I've not done it but would presume it'd be easy enough to glue some foam over the marks made by the door without disassembly.

Not really; the foam strips sat in the front-to-back portion of the door opening jammed up against the l-r area.  Don't know whether I'm describing this properly...but, you can't get around the front edge of the door to attach the foam properly to the fiberglass.

Bought a couple of these from McMasterCarr: Adhesive-Back Polyurethane Bumper , 1-1/2" OD, Part number 8215K212 and placed on the car body jam so the jam face of the door pushes flat against. They seem to work fine. Cleaner solution than my initial idea of limiting straps.
