The forum in 2013
« on: Thursday,January 02, 2014, 10:51:42 AM »
Our little community saw an increase of 245% in traffic this year. We ended the year with 208 members. Thanks to all the members who have participated this year. In the last few months I have seen an increase in spammers trying to register. Usually it's Polish porn sites. I try and catch them as soon as they register, but sometimes they get a post on the board before I can delete the account. If you see a post that has a weird link, please let me know as soon as you can. There is a link at the bottom of every post labeled "report to moderator". I usually ban the ip address and delete the account.

Originally, I was sending an email to each new member asking them to respond to me directly before I would activate the membership. However at the suggestion of members I automated the registration process which required no intervention on my part. For the most part this works well. I still receive notifications that a new member has registered and try and check it out as soon as it occurs.

So if you see any post that doesn't look legitimate please report.

Happy New Year  :beerchug:

And for all you lurkers out there....start posting

A Happy New Year to you Joe, and of course all the other folks on here.  Plus another big "thank-you" for setting this up and the work you're doing behind the scenes to keep it rolling along, it's appreciated.

Your anti-spam things must be working because I log in daily and haven't noticed anything untoward and I check out most topics.  Over 200 members must be getting on for most of the Europa-owning internet community, although there's more on the Yahoo group a lot of those are historical and even that is down to a small circle of regulars.  So that's progress in my book.

Yes, thanks Joe - this is a great forum!

I just don't understand why there is so much traffic on the Yahoo! Group, when this is available and so much superior (it drives me nuts how one can't embed photos in posts to the Yahoo! Group, for example).

Julian,
I agree, I belong to many forums and the Yahoo format is my least favorite. The Yahoo forum does allow attachments, but, the moderator on the Lotus Forum will not allow it. I belong to the Navion group and attachments are allowed  . I think the Yahoo format will eventually die and most of those members will migrate over here.

I'm happy that this group is growing. I try to check in almost every day and see what is new. The yahoo group is hard to deal with, especially with the 'new format'.
This year promises at lot of Europa work upcoming for me, at least that's the plan. So questions will be forthcoming.
Joe, thanks for making this site possible.

I suspect the real reason for the popularity of the Yahoo group is its age. There's a wealth of data and experience there, and it's searchable from Jerry's Lotus Europa Central. There are also people who still like the email notifications..

Now if someone could get it together, like happened with the Elan Yahoo / Forum,  we'd have the best of both worlds.
