Oil light/pressure Renault 1470 cc
« on: Friday,October 28, 2022, 02:21:15 PM »
Hi If I do not not start my Lotus Europa S2 with the Renault 1470 cc engine for a few days it can take up to 15 seconds for the oil light to go out and the oil pressure gauge to register.
The engine has just been totally rebuilt new oil pump,re ground crank etc etc.
It’s because the oil filter is mounted at 90 degrees to the the engine so the oil filter drains out over a period of time, and has to refill before the oil light goes out and the oil pressure to register.
Oil pressure is 60 psi hot running and 50 psi at tick over so no problem there.
I have fitted a filter with a non return valve which has made it a bit better.
Has anyone else had this issue, and how did you resolve it?

It should only ever have an oil filter with a non-return valve. The gauge will lag a bit as it is an electric gauge, not mechanical. The light, though, should go out pretty quickly.  If this is a fresh rebuild, I suspect that a bit of residual debris is stuck under the oil pressure relief valve.  Drop the pan and clean it out.
