Well the dumb questions from me do not stop,  I see in the book the speedo cable goes into the middle hole of the back plate where the heater pipes and shift rod
goes through,   so where does it exit???  also I 'think'  there may be a little sort of  'T' to let AIR out of water/antifreeze, I think the air trapped in the block may
cause it to overheat,  so they put this   valve somewhere,    where???    Thanks  Mike.

Cooling system air bleeds are at the high points:
- top of the rad, right by the outlet
- top of the water pump (Renault engine)

I added a couple of extra ones but those two are the most important.

To add a bit more, at its back end the speedo cable runs forward inside the right frame rail and into the central tunnel. At the front end, the cable has to bend close to 180 degrees in order to attach to the speedo. My experience has been that it's important to get this bend as large and as smooth as possible to get the speedo to run without jittering.
The smaller hose leading to the top of the water pump has a brass tee spliced into it just forward of the water pump. The stem of the tee is closed by a knurled brass thumbscrew that is loosened to bleed air out.

I believe you can fit an MG speedometer angle drive adapter to the back of the speedo so you only have to turn the cable through 90deg.  I might need to do this to mine as the speedo stops working if I move the cable into the wrong position. I suspect it will be well worth it compared to trying to thread through a new cable on a nearly finished car (they are permanently nearly finished as there is always something needs doing - just like houses!)

  Mike this is why we have this site, I'm not there yet but close. My wood dash is finished but adding a evaporator in place of heater. I'll mock up the dash maybe tomorrow.

This prompted me to look.
Apparently NAPA now have a presence in Oz, too . . 30 locations!

NAPA took over Repco here in Oz some time ago and they plan on opening more stores under the NAPA brand.
Repco, of course is the origin of the Repco Brabham collaboration and driven by Jack Brabham from a bygone era.

I remember Brabham Repco back in the day. I was an early fan because my dad was a “Chevy man” so I was not pulling for a Ford. I didn’t know what “Repco” was but it didn’t matter. It wasn’t a Ford!

I don’t go to NAPA stores often, usually when I need something I can describe but don’t know what car it might come from. The guys seem to take pride in being able to find stuff in a rack of books. Sometimes the books have pretty good technical info about the parts. They seem to be better at finding that odd part. That’s my experience with NAPA over here anyway.

This does not work, the threads are much too large for the Europa cable at the Speedo end

They seem to be pretty common devices. An ebay search for "speedometer angle drive" gives lots of results - one may fit yours. You might try a speedo repair shop on the Interwebs.

Don't have to search the web.  Use one from an MGB.  Works fine.  Moss has them.  Installed one in the last S2 I had and the cable (third one in a month) lasted for the rest of my ownership.  Probably still OK with the new owner.

I just installed a new speedo cable was really easy if your old cable is still there here is what I did
Unscrewed the cable from back of speedo just stick your hand in the back of speedo no need to take nothing apart then I used a wire from a weed wacker taped it to the speedo cable the part I unscrewed
Then I went to the back of the lotus and pulled in the back with someone In front making sure it goes in the tunnel then continued pulling until it came out the back until my weed wacker wire was all the way to the transmission so the weed wacke wire was front to back
Then I tied the new cable the part that goes to the back in front to the weed wacker cable and pulled the wire so it would take the same route as the previous cable had someone feeding it as I pulled took 20 minutes was really easy
So removal front to back
Install front to back
Hope this help for someone changing cable
