Any need to open Pandora's box? (tranny axle seals that is.....)
« on: Tuesday,November 01, 2022, 12:20:32 PM »
The tranny axle seals in TCST did not leak after sitting for 40 years, moving it to my house moving it around in my garage
and before disassembling the car there was no gear oil on the floor (no glitter in the oil when I drained it either)....I bought seals and plan to check ring and pinion backlash, if it's ok is there a real need to open Pandora's tranny and change them? If they start leaking I can change them later...or if it leaks a few drops I hear all things British leak anyway

Having recently took my tcs box out, I did the seals but didnt split the 2 halves. I also took off the rear housing and changed the o rings in there. I would say its wise to change the seals and O rings as they are likely to have hardened, but Im no expert.

It is best to change the output seals when the transaxle is out.  While it can be done insitu in theory, in practice, lots of people futz it up.
