Bolts for trunk lids
« on: Wednesday,March 20, 2024, 09:09:00 AM »
I thought I could figure out the bolt nomenclature for the trunk and engine lid bumper bolts. 13C in front and 14A in the back. But the manual lists two possible meanings of a two digit number, diameter and length. And the A and C can have a few meanings. So can you help with what 13C and 14A mean? I vaguely recall they are 3/8-24 threads. But that could be 5 year old memories leaking.

My paint guy suddenly wants the mounting hardware to check panel fit, so I'm trying to source the bolts.

Those 13C and 14A "part numbers" don't make any sense in the Lotus bolt specification system. But I just noticed the first line of the #18 item in the parts book is X046B6113Z. So trying to break that down,

X - Hexagon head
04 - # of 1/16" increments in diameter == 1/4"
6 - no idea
B - Bolt
61 - Length in 16ths. inch = 3.8125 = 3-13/16"
13 - no idea
Z - lots of parts end in Z for no given reason

Does that look more or less right? I don't have the car with me right now, but I think a 1/4" bolt fits the hole.

I don't remember the bolt size  through the body to hinge but the hinge to hatch lid on mine are 1/4" fine. I used studs w/loctite and I used thin nyloc nuts.

Search on eBay for "Classic Car Bumper Bolts".

Just to wrap this up, what ended up fitting was:

Front: 5/16-24 x 1-1/4"
Rear: 5/16-24 x 1-1/2"
