Gearbox 352
« on: Sunday,February 06, 2022, 10:02:37 AM »
Hello
Does make any sense to save some 352 gearboxes (probably from Renault 16, I think)? I can get 3 pcs. And how to identify the differences in 352's? (if that is true)

Regards

Good question.  It gets complicated.  As far as I understand it, the Lotus 352 uses a 3.5x final drive while the Renault 352 uses a 3.7x final drive.  So, Renault sourced boxes would be good for parts such as gears, shift forks, shift hubs, etc, but not as a complete replacement.  They are also pretty robust boxes.  Things can go wrong but they don't often do so.  If you have the space, squirrelling one away might be prudent but I find most carefully saved spares are just tossed at a later date.  YMMV

PS: The same cannot be said of 365 boxes.  Save as many of those that you can!  Even better, sell me one!!

Another thought, does the crown and pinion gears fit in the 336 box?

Different part numbers but I don't know what the actual differences are.  All the rest of the parts are the same (carrier, gears, etc).
