should yoke in trasmission have 1/8 in play (in/out) s2 1969

folks, replaced seals a few months ago, there was one thin shim, left it in, screwed back plate to exact location where it was. (month later) had car jacked up,  grabbed wheel to make
sure all is solid and found the inside yoke goes in and out of trans about 1/8.  is something  screwed up? do I need to add some shims somewhere?   Thanks

Is it the output shaft moving, or the half shaft yoke moving on the output shaft?

Folks, it is the yoke  In the transmission, it is not the universal joint, it is the yoke that slides in and out of transmission.

The inner "yoke" slides onto the transaxle's output shafts.  The yoke is shimmed against a collar and retained by split pins.  The split pins could be sheared, allowing the yoke to move.  You need to carefully examine, and maybe remove the half-shaft, to see what's up.

If the output shaft is snug, then you can double check your shimming and fit new pins -- shimming needs to be TIGHT or the pins will shear.  If it is the output shafts that are loose, then the transaxle has to come out to fix it.
