half shaft rubbing
« on: Sunday,July 25, 2021, 12:23:34 PM »
after long ride i always do an inspection
spotted a problem half shaft was rubbing on muffler
anyone know the wall thickness of the half shaft tube
the rubbing removed surface rust scratched the surface
i modified the muffler doesn’t rub anymore
was lucky i caught it on time
do i have to change it or the wall is thick enough
im gonna measure the outside diameter and compare it to the section that didn’t rub

You’ll run through a lot of mufflers before you hurt your half shaft!

I don't know the wall thickness of the tube but it's certainly thinner than anything typically used these days.

Half-shaft should be fine.  Patch the muffler!

after fixing the clearance issue i mig welded the cracks so it’s ok now one thing i did is i put some
green paper tape all around where it rubbed and went for a ride tape still there no sign of rubbing anymore but after this im really starting to look at twin links specially the one that fits original half shaft
