TCS WIPER CONTROL LEVER
« on: Friday,July 09, 2021, 06:18:09 PM »
Looking for a replacement TCS wiper control stalk and notice the speeds on the Lucas replacements are opposite from the one I currently have . All the  replacements I have seen have 2 speeds facing up, single wipe down.  Was the wiper stalk specific for Lotus with wipe up and 2 speed down? Thanks

I believe the wiper/washer/dimmer/horn controls come from a Triumph Spitfire (and probably other models as well). Could you be looking at a set for right hand drive? You can get them from places like Moss Motors or other Triumph parts house.

There is what I think is a Lotus-only part though and that is the mounting plate. If I’m right when you get a Spitfire replacement switch, you will have to transfer the stalk mechanism to your Lotus mounting plate (at least that’s what I had to do). Be careful! This really is one of those times that when you open it up, pieces can fly out! Also, part of the way it works is the stalks push small brass rollers over contacts so you need to position them correctly when you put it all back together.

Take it apart slowly and deliberately. Watch where things go and where they came from. Study how it works and be careful putting it back together. Make sure the rollers (and I believe there is at least one detent ball and spring) are properly positioned when you put it back together.

If I can do it, I’m sure you can!

Good luck!

The new switch may have different colour wires, and a different connection block. I use bullet connectors, the brass things used on a standard Lotus loom. You need a crimping tool to squash the new connection bullets on the the bare wire ends.

Keep the old switch, so you can work out how to connect the wires. It is logical, connect one at a time, and you should end up with them connected correctly.

Appears to be 1973 Austin Marina, at least that is what matches my original. Lucas # 39819. Thanks

Should be a Morris Marina. At that time Austin made the Allegro, know as the "all aggro".
