I'm slightly saddened by that announcement but to be fair the Elise has been around for over 25 years now, and that's a longer production run than most. (the Esprit just beats it ?)

The "slightly saddened" part comes from the suspicion that Lotus are re-inventing the mistakes of the late 70s when they abandoned the enthusiast (and cheaper) market and went for the high end Porsche market with the Esprit/Elite/Eclat cars.  They had to revert back with the M100 Elan and it really wasn't until the Elise came along that they returned to "mass" market sales. It'd be disappointing to see them go through another cycle like that.

According to Lotus the new range of sports cars will start at $75K (US). Which makes the entry model similar in pricing to the Elise when it first came out (taking inflation into consideration). Used Elise’s are selling in the high $30K and have reached over $40K. I expect when the new cars are actually in show rooms the used Elise and Exige market will see another price increase. Not sure about the used Evora market as I think the new 131 will be a design that most Evora owners will lust after and that will create a buyers market quickly for used Evora’s.

Never the less, Europa prices have steadily increased too. I’m seeing basket case cars going for double what they were being sold for just a couple of years ago.

A very enthusiastic thumbs up from Jay Leno on the Evora GT. Jay captures a lot of what is good about the Europa in his review of the Evora. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmS__G9ig64

Jay seemed to really like the Evora. Of course, he seems to like every car he sees to really like the Evora!

A good friend of mine owned a Europa and an Elise at the same time and photographed them side by side (I also owned both at the same time and didn’t take the time to do this). It’s an interesting visual comparison.
