Keep in mind that you couldn't have used a Fuego transmission anyway since it's just a transmission, not a transaxle. Any engine you use that's not out of a mid-engine car with its own transaxle would require you to either mate it to your transaxle or to some other transaxle (which would then require you to fabricate a custom shift linkage).

The Fuego uses the NG series of transaxle.   And, custom shift linkages aren't as scary as they first appear, setting up a cable shift arrangement is relatively straight forward.

R17, R18 and Fuego are front wheel drive but have an inline driveline with the engine in front of the transaxle.  They are perfect fro the Europa and drop in quite nicely with only a bit of shenanigans required for the mounts and gear shifting.
