wtb door lock
« on: Tuesday,November 20, 2018, 11:40:19 AM »
my rescue project(1969 s2) came without a rh door latch.
or the hole in the door, that also makes it interesting.
seems to be #15- 036b6049 in the rd enterprise list(sec.bd)- ray has none.
perhaps these parts were "stolen" from other cars, and there is another source?
any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

My door locks were pretty bad so I’ve decided to replace them. I think Richard at Europa engineering might have them. I couldn’t get a hold of him so I ordered two pairs from Paul Matty sportscars. I was going to put the second pair in my Elan but I’m not in a hurry. I’m back and forth to the US quite a lot through work. In fact I’m on my way to SFO now! Where are you located?

They are still being made. Wilmot Breeden (the original manufacturer) has morphed into Weston Body Hardware ( http://www.westonbodyhardware.com/) and is still on the go. I tried to order some lock barrels for my boot locks but it wasn’t easy to navigate through their old site. A phone call might be better.

Regards,

Wow! That was some rain. On my way back now. I guess you must be glad to get the rain after the fires.

I think the boot/bonnet locks are harder to come by as they were shared only with a few other cars. The door locks are mgb with a screw thread instead of a spring clip (metal doors). You can also get them from Holden.co.uk but the actuation bar will have to be changed. The latches should be quite easy to source as well. If you need a door rod set I have a new spare right hand door set.  I thought that mine were lost but they weren’t!

I’m back in SFO at the start of December.

Have a happy thanksgiving.

Thinking about it, there may be a solution closer to you. When I’m in SFO I sometimes go and visit Mike Ostrov at his shop in Richmond. Mike is a long time Lotus man and is the guru on the Type 14 Elite. He regularly digs in his storage container and advertises on the lotuselan.net forum (http://www.lotuselan.net/forums/lotus-parts-f33/addendem-the-last-posting-t42773.html). Looking at it again just now he did have a pair of S4 Elan latches and handles etc. which would be the same as the Europa’s.

I usually catch the BART to El Cerrito del Norte and he picks me up, sometimes in an Elite. The last few times I was there he had a friend’s Europa in the back being restored. It may still be there. It’s worth while seeing one intact to see where everything is meant to go!

I hope that helps.

rain to help cool the fires, and clear the air a bunch- amazing how much smoke we got here.....

again, thanks for the source. i will attempt contact, as richmond's not that far away.

i see you are based in ireland, but quite familiar with the bay area. hope you like traveling!

still fishing.

addon- it seems i'm only missing the door lock- i think all the actuating rods are there.
