« on: Thursday,August 16, 2018, 07:00:35 PM »
I just wasted a day running around trying to find a muffler that would fit I have a racing muffler now but it’s really loud the only thing I found was a trush turbo muffler it’s 14 inch long 9 3/4 wide and
4 1/2 high it doesn’t fit to big
What muffler are you guys using I don’t want to cancel my luggage box

Bit more information, please.  Is it an otherwise stock engine?  Stock systems are available from Banks and RD.  Modified?  Performance parts suppliers have various mufflers on hand, or order-able.  I went with a baffled Magna-flow capped with a SuperTrapp resonator/outlet.  The SuperTrapp restricts power but it also keeps it very quiet indeed.

It’s a stock 821 Renault in a 1970 s2
I didn’t want to order one online just wanted to pick one up in my area
But I don’t know what dimension I need

There are a lot of nice mufflers but you will have to order. I Like and run the Borla XS. Stainless and straight through. Lighter than Magnaflow too. Avoid Flowmaster if you want quite. Straight through mufflers are not the quietest but better than Flowmaster. I believe Dynomax makes baffled mufflers. If you want quite get a baffled, non straight through muffler.

I googled local exhaust specialist and they found an off the shelf silencer.  I had a fancy tail pipe welded on and it is brilliant.  Only cost me £90 and the owner was called Colin Chapman.    they are all very short though so its hard not to have a loud exhaust.

Your local custom exhaust shop will be able to get a range of mufflers.  Bring it by for them to have a look.

Thanks for the replies I’m in Quebec and where I live they don’t like different or modified cars so I really need a quiet exhaust  they even check by sticking a wire in the muffler to see if it’s not modified a guy got a fine cause he was missing his caps on the tire valves !!
I asked a police officer what can I do not to get bothered cause the original exhaust doesn’t have a resonator or catalyser he told me carry your parts manuel to show it was made like that and that its oem

If you are not willing to either order in the right part, nor visit an exhaust shop, then you are going to have to use a tape measure to figure out what size will fit and see what you can pick up locally.  You will need to know:

- inlet pipe size and location (diameter and centre or side inlet)

- outlet pipe size and location (diameter and centre or side outlet)

- width and length available.

Take a look at the muffler for an MGB. I used to have one. You'll have to have the attachment bracket cut from your old muffler and welded on.

It’s not that I don’t want to order the right parts I figured I can get one close by to me it was like buying spark plugs or belts you can get them at the auto part store i did order the plastic molding for my windshield from England with the exchange rate and transport and custom i paid 472 dollars for 2  pièces of plastic  268 part 143 transport 50 for custom
so if the dimension of the Europa muffler would be written somewhere i would buy one same size locally and save transport and customs i dont want to pay four times more for the same part !!
I hope my reasoning makes sence !  that said I really appreciate all your help

This is a complete system (downpipe back) but in stainless. Off the shelf, but very expensive!

Thanks serge i love your videos  great reference  and very informative motivates me to do more on my europa
for the muffler the link you posted is what im looking for but im not decided what engine im gonna use in my car i have the 821 wich i got running  but its got a weird sound im not sure if its in good condition i tried listening to engines on YouTube and there all pretty noisy on the top end i don’t know if it’s normal i did a leak test but after i noticed that my brand new tester didn’t show more than 15 percent leakage even whith the hose disconnected and emptying at 100% i have a crossflow A7L with twin delortos but the exhaust valve is leaking bad and one intake valve leaking to so im really undecided so im gonna go to a Renault specialiste in my area and see what my options are before dishing out for a nice muffler
