Is this a record ?
« on: Friday,March 23, 2018, 11:07:26 PM »
I just came across this ebay UK listing and after seeing the final bids I'm stunned. Metallifacture 1972 original jack with ratchet lever from a Lotus Elan Sprint. (Ok, not a Europa but it's similar family and arguably more numerous)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotus-Elan-Metallifacture-Jack-amp-handle-Obsolete-/352303430487?rmvSB=true&clk_rvr_id=1476422653127&nma=true&si=qQ2%252FNTzfw2sE1rB3Kx0RSJoIxaI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I'll let you see the final price after 21 bids for yourselves.....   sit down before you click the link !

It’s in great condition and Seems a little high.......

I own a 64 Elan S1 and when I was searching for OEM parts for my restoration I was astounded by the prices of used parts. Jacks, tool rolls, steering wheels, oil pans and valve covers went for big money.

If you own a show quality car and want all the right pieces......well, you will pay just about anything.

By the way, when was the last time you priced an ashtray for a Europa?

Glen,  I thought smoking was on the decline nation-wide. :)

I had a jack (ratchet handle only) for sale for only $30 like forever without any bites.   I just added another zero!!!  :FUNNY:
now maybe it will sell???

Complete Europa tool kits with the early jack and bag often go in the $400US range.

The first thing people did was remove the tool bag.  Once separated form the car, it usually was forgotten about when the car was sold.  The tool bag would then be thrown away in the next dung-out of the garage.  Similar thing happens to owner's manuals.

Europas aren't there yet but restoring for show is getting more common in the Elan world.
