Carpeting source needed
« on: Monday,December 19, 2016, 04:05:57 PM »
My 72 Europa has very nice original black carpeting in amazing condition.....except for the floors. I need to replace the entire floor carpet. Any recommendations for suppliers of carpet with the proper backing?

I got mine from an outfit called automat in New York (https://www.autointeriors.biz). They offer carpet kits for just about any car in many different materials and colors. They used to offer embroidery on the mats - I got the Lotus roundel. Later, I heard there was a copyright issue so company logos may not be available anymore, but if you're interested, it would be worth a call to them.

Thanks BDA. I looked at their website and downloaded the price list. Will need to call them to see if they will only supply the floor carpet.

What type of carpet was original to the Lotus type 74? Is it nylon or wool?

I don't know for sure, but nylon seems like it would be cheaper so I would guess it was nylon. The automat folks might know.

Both the drivers side and the passenger side of my Europa seem to only have the padding under the seat and in the foot well (the foot well has separate pads for placing in this area) with a carpet strip in front of the seats.  Is this standard that only padding was in this area?  Or did the carpeting originally cover the entire area under the seat?

If memory serves, all the carpet had a pad. I got a pad for the complete carpet from automat. I think it came with the carpet by default, but I could be wrong.
