Aluminium window surround
« on: Sunday,September 18, 2016, 01:11:05 PM »
I am looking at how best to treat the aluminium window door frames. They seem to be hard anodised. What have others done about refurbishing theses frames and polishing them?

I am wondering the same thing - my frames are off the doors.  They look anodized.  I was thinking I'd try a buffing wheel on an inside part of the frame that does not show when installed to see what buffing does to the finish.  Anyone with experience on this - are they anodized?

I took mine to the anodiser and had them remove the anodising. I then polished them using wet and dry paper and took them back to the anodiser. They came back looking terrible due to what the man said were impurities in the aluminium. I got him to remove the anodising again and polished them again and left it at that. Two years later they still look shiny and indistinguishable from the original. If they lose some of their shine a light rub with Brasso or similar brings them back.

Dont get too hung up on ghe anodising!

Interesting you took them to the anodiser to remove the anodising. looks like oven cleaner takes off the anodising (from you tube, also drain cleaner too).  I do agree just polish and don't bother re-anodising.
