Hi from a newbie
« on: Tuesday,July 26, 2016, 12:35:06 PM »
Hi to all, so happy to find this forum. I've been a lotus enthusiast since I was 6, my dad used to take me to a car lot in Esher I think was, he passed in 1971 so it must have been 1970 or so. Anyway, I always loved the Europa, what some people (my wife) think is ugly, I think is just classic and beautiful.

I am now living in the USA and at last looking to find the perfect project car, my son is 6 ( I was late with that too) and I want him to learn through doing how a car works and be part of the process of bringing back to life through hard work something special.

So for now I am Europa-less, but I am looking every day for the perfect vehicle, I really want to find twink version ideally needing some old fashioned TLC.

I know one day the perfect car will come along, until then I'll do what I've been doing for 45 years and keep dreaming.

Nice to meet you all.

Jon

 :Welcome: Bart!

Europas are great project cars and great cars to learn on. There's one on ebay right now, and they pop up there, craigslist, and bring a trailer from time to time.

This is a great forum and there are a lot of knowledgeable people here so you've come to the right place. You should also join the lotuseuropa yahoo group. There are more great people there, too.

After you finally get your Europa, be sure to check the lists of supplier links on this forum: http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=192.0

Good luck and make sure you post pictures and bring any questions to us!

Hi,

I will definitely get on the yahoo one too. I've been actively bidding on EBay outbid on the last 3, There was one on BAT at 6K that was on CL missed that one too.  0h well, I will keep looking and one day the stars will align I'm sure.

I've been reading many of the posts and seen all the restoration videos from Serge (that's a serious project he has going ) just admire the independence of his way of work.

Once I get one I will certainly be an active member here. I know I'll need the help :)

We probably shouldn't talk too much about how good Serge's videos are. His head might get too big for him to get in his car!  :FUNNY:

There are several other really interesting projects that are on this forum now. One of the things I really like about Europa owners in general is that they are often very creative!

Good luck finding a car!

:lotus:  Welcome Bart and good luck in finding the car you want. Don't rush and when you do get one keep us all updated with plenty of photographs. They are the best looking car ever. I had one in the 70's. I also have an Elan which when it comes to attention is in the shadow of the Europa   All the best  Stuart     :Welcome:

:Welcome: Welcome to the forum, Bart. You have found the right place for information and assistance, and general camaraderie regarding all things Europa. Good luck in your search. It pays to be diligent in your selection of a project car. Given the relatively low prices for good drivable examples, absolute basket cases can and probably should be avoided. Though having said that, I am amazed at some of the projects on this forum that are being rescued from the ravages of time. It all depends on what you are after, of course, but even a nearly perfect Europa will keep you busy with tinkering and tuning.

Enjoy the search. Cheers  :beerchug:
