Wheels specs
« on: Friday,October 23, 2015, 04:17:26 AM »
As I listed in a post in Member cars I have on the wishlist to switch over to some 15 inch wheels on my 1971 S2.
I would like to opt for as wide wheels and tires as possible without adding problems.

As for the style of wheels I am looking for something like Revolution, Minilite, Superlite. I found a site in UK (without knowing anything about this vendor) that seems to have some interesting wheels on offer.
http://www.randr-alloys.co.uk/alloy-wheels/revolite
http://www.randr-alloys.co.uk/alloy-wheels/mamba
http://www.randr-alloys.co.uk/alloy-wheels/superlight-mk2

Regaring difference in size I tried to compare by using the http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp page and
compared 175-70-13 with 195-50-15 and it differs ony 1 mm between the sizes and if you opt for 205-50-15 it differs 11mm

I have tried to search the forums and the Yahoo group but I canĀ“t really find out what dimensions really fit and what
specs in boltpattern, backdrop and so on. I need to find out what to specify when ordering

Anyone with some experience to share regarding facts or even a link to some wheels you have actually bougth and fitted on your own cars?

Best regards
John

I have the second wheels down this page on my car, from the MGF  VVC 1995-1999. The page gives info about offset, pcd, etc, at the top.

http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/wheel_options_for_the_mgf.htm

I have 195/50 front, 205/50 rear which is pretty much the same overall diameter as I had before. A guy on the Yahoo list fitted the same wheels to his S2 and is using 195/50 all round. Apparently there is the slightest kiss on full lock inside the wheel arches on the S2 but nothing on my TC.  This is what they look like "in the metal"  :)

Very nice wheels! I think the production tolerances were such that the front tires might scrape the wheel well on some cars but not others even on stock size tires and wheels. I had that experience with one of the Europas I've owned.

Ive been looking round at your recommendations and MGF Wheels. I now understand that the PCD is 4x95,25.

One additional question is if anyone has successfully mounted upwards to 7 inch wide wheels and if so what offset was used to fit under the fenders?

Best regards

I had to use spacers on the front with 6" wheels. They hit the suspension arms.

I can't comment on 7" wheels but if you are considering the 16x7J MGF wheels then there are a couple of additional things you need to know. You need the matching MGF wheel nuts because they have a conical seat which is much wider than the small OEM Lotus nuts. This consequently means new (bigger diameter) wheel studs all round as well but on the positive side it's a very easy job as the splined sections are the same diameter as the Lotus hubs.
