Question about the foam strips
« on: Saturday,June 27, 2015, 09:27:07 AM »
What are you using to replace the worn out and/or missing foam strips that run across the undersides of the front and rear lids?  What thickness is needed?
Thanks!
Bob

Hello Bob I used the same foam that runs across the bonnet on my Elan. I needed to trim it lengthwise by a couple of inches. It has worked a treat. I got mine from Sue Miller. It has one side with adhesive on it already
all the best

Phil,
I see that SJS Sports Cars has the correct foam strips for the boot and the bonnet.  Exactly what I need.
Thank you!
Regards,
Bob

Hello Bob,

I also ordered two of the foam strips for the rear lid, they are about 250mm too short!!

Phil, Are all 3 strips the same width and thickness? How thick is the rear piece for the rear deck?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello!

Here is what I have found on the SJS Sports Cars website.

SJ618 - Foam Strip for luggage tray to engine cover. Cost 1.95L
A079K4001F - Foam strip stuck to bonnet. Seals between the spare wheel and the luggage compartments. Cost 3.78L

I was unable to copy the pictures to post here, but they are different colors of foam and possibly different densities as well.

The picture that I posted above of the boot lid looks like there is one piece of foam going straight across where the front of the tub would rest and there appears to be a second piece of foam wrapping around the rear, too.  That makes sense because that second foam barrier would help to keep tailpipe exhausts from entering the storage tub from the rear.

Nonetheless, you can check out the foam pieces on the SJS web site here - http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/index.php?mod=9

I hope that helps.
Bob

Excellent! Thank you.

The grey one on the top is for the bonnet and the pale yellow one on the bottom is for the boot.

Hello
The ones SJS sent for the rear lid are 21 x 15mm and are grey, but are to short, have been offered another piece but putting a join in is not going to work.
