Standard S2 WHEELS and Homemade linkages
« on: Monday,June 30, 2014, 06:50:59 AM »
I have Triumph Dolomite Sprint wheels on my S2 which look OK but I do like the standard hub-capped wheels.
I have a spare couple in poor condition but where to find another 2 or a set. In the UK they seem impossible to find-
are they the same as elan s3's? I've seen new hubcaps on ebay...

Linkage:
I have a Gordini engine with a 365-34 box, very rare from a R17- it has had the rear hoop cut out and a box frame
added to support the 365 which all seems quite well engineered (done 20 years ago) but it has a very weird feature!
There is a lever on a hinge that is fitted to the chassis boxing that is attached to a cable that runs to somewhere in the tunnel
(haven't traced it yet). The only function I can see it having is to stop the gear change arm at the gearbox end coming out too far
when activated? Maybe to stop reverse or something being selected. I've seen a bar and pin fitted on some modified Europas
at the gearshift end so presumably this is another way? I'd take a photo but they won't attach at any size or format.

Regards, Mark

Yes, they are the standard Lotus steel wheels also used on 7s and Elans,

Sounds like a homemade reverse lock out.

If you can get the pictures posted, would love to see the home made solution to fitting the 365 box to the S2.

Just wondering how well this home engineered shift linkage works. If Lotus couldn't come with something better than what we have now, not sure that too many shade tree mechanics can. Have you looked down the central tunnel in the cabin to see where the cable attaches? All of the reverse lockouts that I've come across have been mechanical stops at the shift lever.

BTW, your pictures are huge, may want to reduce the number of pixels prior to posting

Thanks Grumblebuns.

I can select 1st easily and it goes into 3rd. As I said I only drove it into the garage and believe
I got third at one point because it went in easily to what I thought was 1st but stalled when I released the clutch. Moved
it over and it went into first fine. However, where is reverse on a 365-34, across to the left and down? Even the R17 manual
doesn't show the gate pattern!

I would assume that all 365 trannies have the same pattern in which case, you are right - to the left and down.
