F/S - 1972 Lotus Europa S2
« on: Tuesday,May 23, 2023, 01:22:36 PM »
Previous owner completed a frame-off restoration of this car a year
or so before I bought it in 2020.  This car features a Gordini
crossflow engine with Weber 40 DCOE carbs, aluminum fuel tank,
aluminum radiator with twin fans, custom "pendulum" pedal assembly,
period aftermarket alloy wheels, and some suspension modifications.
It weighs 1430 lbs. wet, has an overall height of 39 inches, and
presents well.  (I can provide further details of the cars
construction from the previous owner.)

The car had some teething problems, most of which I've corrected:
new Girling brake master cylinders and clutch master cylinder, new
"Hot Spark" solid state points/condenser replacement, and brand new
40 DCOE 151 carbs.  Even with a hot road cam, the engine idles at
800 RPM and returns 29+ MPG.  Sadly, the gearbox failed shortly
after the new carbs were installed and needs to be rebuilt or
replaced.

The car is in storage in Hood River, Oregon (about 65 miles east of
Portland).  It has an Oregon "SP" registration and clear Oregon
title.  I'm selling it, reluctantly, because I have to go back to
Texas and cannot bring it with me.

I bought the car for $18.5K and put at least $5K into it since, but
since it needs a gearbox I'm asking for $17.5K.

So long as it is not the R&P that are damaged I may have a parts trans.
I just scrapped two R16's for their engines and trans.

I am building a very similar car, curious what your cam specs are?
Never saw wheels like those before.
Where were the headlamp covers sourced?

Sorry, I don't have details on the camshaft -- only know that it was sent to
Iskendarian for grinding.  Ditto on the headlight covers.  About the wheels,
I found this https://ratsun.net/topic/34621-14x55-4x1143-midland-metallic-wheels-of-england/

Regarding the headlight covers, back in the 1990's (?) someone made a bunch of them and sold them around. I have a couple up in the attic waiting for the time.

Was there another source for them since then?

Kelvedon lists them for the later body, but are currently out of stock, I'm sure if enough people bugged them they could get more made up:

Early type are also out of stock:

While we are on this subject, has anyone found or designed an elegant mounting solution for headlight covers? The ones I have seen all look like aftermarket additions.

(To be fair, I've also seen old Ferraris with stock headlight covers that look like afterthoughts.)

Alfa-Romeo Spider had a nice solution.

I need to call Isky about regrinding my TS cam.

The op has a very nice car, very little I would have to change.
