TC Stromberg head “hot rod” intake adapter
« on: Thursday,March 17, 2022, 09:46:47 AM »
Just sharing a 3D printed intake adapter I made for “future” hot rodding of my TC ( going to run the carbs at first).  Plan is to fuel inject and turbo it.  Made the adapter to accept a Holley 2300 flange and use a Holley sniper throttle body.  The first revision came out real nice.  Im currently testing the       eco-abs filament submerged in a can of fuel ( 3 weeks so far and no degradation ).

Thought I’d share this and also see if anyone has done fuel injection or turbocharging on their twin cams.

Once a hot rodder, always a hot rodder.  Amazing what’s possible nowadays for the backyard hobbyists.

That looks interesting. I don't know anything about the Holley 2300 so I wonder if there will be space for the carb in the car.

Dimensionally it all fits (throttle body with an air cleaner or carb hat) in the same space as the strombergs and air cleaner assembly.

69Merc,
My Twin Cam Special  was turbocharged in '76 by the first owner, and will be when I get it back on the road.
What are your plans?

Turboforce,
I like your username :beerchug:
Right now the plan is to use this:

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_injection/sniper_efi/sniper_2300_2bbl/super_sniper_2300/parts/550-853

It gives me fuel injection and blow thru capability.  And will bolt onto my intake adapter.

I’ve been looking at 123ignitions for timing control (these have programmable curves and timing retard for boost).

The turbo will be a small T3/T4 common turbo.  Obviously the exhaust will be custom.

I like your prototype intake manifold!

Mine will be using a draw through Stromberg CD175 in keeping the spirit of the original build. I will be using a Garrett T3 with compressor side seal to simplify the system as the original Crane turbo (Schwitzer) doesn’t have one really. I will also upgrade the original water/methanol injection and use a wide band O2 sensor/gauge to monitor air fuel ratio.
It burnt a valve so I will be upgrading those too.

I will restore the original set up as it rather interesting…not sure if will go back on TCST….

The Stromberg is supposed to be good for 250hp draw through and more blow through. They actually sold Volvos in Europe that had a blow through Stromberg.

I do have a complete 2.3 turbo out of a XR4Ti……so fuel injection may happen at some point

Thanks!  I think it may be more than a prototype….it is surprisingly solid and is showing no signs of reacting to fuel (and it fits perfect).

The Holley sniper throttle bodies can be mounted sideways.

I’ve read about the draw thru strombergs and the turbo volvos with a stromberg.  There is actually some good information out there about turbocharging with a stromberg.  Sounds like a real cool setup!

What plastic did you print it with?

Curious to see if the Sniper is that easy to use!

I used an ABS filament (Dremel brand).

The Holley sniper is the only 2 barrel throttle body that supports blow thru that I know of.
