Elise shocks on a europa S2
« on: Monday,December 06, 2021, 12:02:37 PM »
Has anyone tried Lotus elise coilovers on the rear of an Europa?
I am not sure about the overall lenght but they seem pretty close to the europa.
The front elise coilovers seem a little shorter, but that could be usefull to lower the rear of my Europa.
Curious about you opinion (s)

I'm not sure I'd go that route, at least not while there's plenty of options which we know will work on the Europa.  It's very easy to get OEM spring/damper combinations and if you want stiffer suspension, that's covered as well with several options for adjustable damping & spring platforms which give you flexibility on  ride height.

The Elise, whilst still a mid engine Lotus and about the same weights, is quite different. If you look at the spring rates for the original S1 and later S2, there's a big difference from the original Europa. Take a look at this page for OEM and the various aftermarket options.

I fitted later Bilsteins to my S1, complete with the matching springs. Although it's a bolt on job, you also need new damper mounting brackets to get the correct ride height as they don't have adjustable platforms. I think trying to fit them to a Europa would be a minefield; it might work out of the box but I'd not be surprised if it didn't.

I don't see the point of Elise shocks/springs either. You can buy Europa adjustable shocks with numerous spring options for as cheap as $168 each. As far as I can tell Elise shocks/springs are far more expensive and may not fit a Europa or have many lb. options. I was able to get Protech adjustable shocks/springs for my S1 at $168 each. I ordered 8" springs because my Europa is lowered a lot. Even the 8" springs didn't lower as much as I wanted so I just bought 7" springs at $40 each. There are other sources in the U.S. for cheap 1.9" springs in various # as well.

I posted this because I found some cheap Elise shocks, and wondered if someone went that path.
Only trying to learn.
I do have spings, but the pistons were bent ,so I am looking for something that can make my project into a roller.
And I always want to use things that are already there instead of buying everything new.
I already tried to find something on the WTB part of this wonderfull LotusForum, but that did not work out yet.
Like to think out of the box, so thats why this question arose.

The front roll bar attaches to a stud off the bottom of the shocks.  I doubt the Elise uses the same system.

The Elise do not use the same system.
I am only interested in the rear suspension, because I have nice front coilovers that I will be using.
There is a set of used Bilstein, front and rear for sale, so I want to figure out if it would be usable on my Europa.
Sent the guy a message to send me the dimensions of the shocks, but he has not answerd yet.
Keep you informed, Bert

Given that the Elise has much less suspension movement than the Europa, I wonder at their suitability.
