New Europa owner 69 S2
« on: Friday,May 24, 2013, 04:51:43 AM »
Hello all, I'm your latest newbie having just taken delivery of 54/1690.
Someone else has done all of the significant work over a number of years, just leaving some minor tweaking and personalisation.

Car is setup in a 'soft' club spec, originally for tarmac rally use but now for my use in hillclimb and sprints, plus a few miles up in the local hills.
The motor is now more or less 16TS Gordini spec and has gained a R18 5 speed gearbox.

Not a lot of these in Australia as far as I know.

Interesting modification for storing the spare tire. But I see with the air diversion ducting in the front there was little choice but to move it to the rear.

Hi Stephen.  Nice car.  Where are you?  There are quite a few of us starting to go on runs in Sydney.   We have had seven of us in one place at the same time but there are a few more out there that we would like to get on our email list.

best regards

G'day Ron, I'm in Melbourne and although I have been pleasantly surprised with the S2 ride quality I can't see myself driving it up to Sydney  :D

Will be popping along to one of the LCV events in the future to see if I can cross paths with another Europa or two.

I can't take any credit for the specifications or current state of this one, all down to the previous owner along with some advice from Richard at Europa Engineering in the UK. The pictures are a little flattering in some aspects, the body was painted about 8-9 years ago and is showing some signs of the 44 years under the skin. Aside from that though it is pretty good and the chassis is better than new.

Spent some time on the throttle linkages and cable today and now have close to full throttle available.
My test run confirms that between the exhaust and 45mm Webers this thing sounds magnificent on full song.
My wife says it is more comfortable than my Smart Roadster (which is lowered 40mm on adjustable Bilsteins) and that she could nod off easily, I think that means she needs her hearing tested or ears unblocked.........

WOW! That is a gorgeous Europa. Welcome to the forum, Stephen. Your Lotus is beautiful, and looks very well sorted. There are some interesting modifications there. It must be a fun ride. Cheers.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

Here is a view of the whole car, sitting at work after proving you can commute in a Europa (but I don't intend to make a habit of it).
I had quite an audience when I warmed it up for the trip home.

Will have a bit of tweaking to suit my own preferences and lesser driving talents, the previous owner is a successful racing driver so is probably comfortable with the 'flighty' nature.  I don't want to do anything drastic just yet, will work up to speed slowly.

Very tidy car. I love the airbox, which collects air for the radiator. Also the interiour looks magnificant!
