There is a European version.  This is Federal.  Would like the European version cuz I don't have one.

I would like to get one of the European versions as well. It's much cleaner in appearance. The one with the high positioned cross-over pipe, which according to the Miles Wilkins book is the one to have.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

Somebody has welded a balance pipe to the head casting and bolted the carburetters directly to it. Probably works OK< but not normal!

I have the European inlets on my car. No real noticeable difference fr m the Federal.

Oh, that's a neat set up in Joe's pic. I wonder how well that works. I love that type of simplicity in action.

I don't think the European cross-over assy added any performance advantage, just a cleaner appearance and presumably slightly less weight. If I recall (and I could possibly have this wrong) there are two versions of the European assy; one with a lower pipe and one with a higher pipe. If I'm not mistaken, the lower pipe was the earlier design and was found to be collecting raw fuel in certain circumstances. The higher pipe solved this problem. It would seem likely to me that by the time the Twin Cam was fitted to the (non-federal) Europa, the later design was being used. I caution again, though, don't take my word as gospel on this. Just trying to regurgitate a vague memory of something I once read.

Here is another solution. I know I've seen a setup very similar to this except the crossover tube goes all the way across.

Joe, that's the standard Lotus TC inlet for Strombergs, as sold everywhere except for the Federal versions of Elans and Europa TCs. Mine came from an English Elan in fact.
Probably the easiest way to get one is to ask on the Elan forum, it's much bigger than this, and has a lot of UK members. That's how I got mine.

Well that makes sense. I just realized in my first post I thought it was connected with a rubber hose, I now see that the rubber hose is there to prevent rubbing from the throttle cable and is the same setup as the other 2.  :confused:

Roger is right, the high balance pipe intake manifold is (or was) std for European Twin Cams with Strombergs.  I have one on my S4 (bought from the UK) and was under the impression that they are getting a bit hard to find.

Some enterprising PO added one on my Europa using stainless steel pipe fittings on what I assume is an early Stromberg intake manifold prior to the introduction of the crossover pipes (Roger, if you recognize it, pls comment).  The PO did a nice job of removing the secondaries by cleanly welding closed the holes where the shafts pass thru.

I think all Federal Stromberg inlets had crossover pipes, and the only others are the high-level and low-level fitted as standard.
But then, I'm not young enough to know everything.
