Coolant Tubes

Can coolant tubes be removed and replaced by removing engine and gearbox only?? - rather than lifting body...

I'd say it was unlikely but you don't know until you try.

Have you thought about looking for a flexible stainless steel pipe that could be used as a replacement?
That way the originals could be cut up and removed and the new stuff threaded through, maybe with the engine still in place.

Yes. With engine and trans out, they come out easily.

I did look into flexible pipe a while back - and couldnt find anything suitable. I would have thought that would be a simple and well known option - but I have never heard of anyone doing it...

I recently did this with my TCS. It requires a bit of twisting the tubes to get them out but can be done. I'm suggest you get new rubber grommets for each end of the chassis holes where the tubes come out. Also use a bit of lubricant on the tubes as you refit them. It was actually easier to put the new tubes in place than removing the old ones.

My engine and trans had to come out recently and I had the shop remove and replace my water transfer tubes with replacement stainless steel tubes.

One last tip, try to get the car as high as possible on Jack stands in the rear. The extra room will help as you wiggle the coolant tubes out the back.
