I have been offered a 78 Lotus 907 Euro Spec, from a RHD Elite, with the 5 speed.
Price seems fair, shipping is still to be determined.
I currently have no actual plan for it, just find it to be a very interesting drivetrain.
So what should I plan to build around it?
I do not see it as suitable for swapping into an MGB or other LBC.
Although just the tub, doors, and windscreen from an MGB draped over a tube chassis with the rest of the body being bespoke seems to have potential. I have a "Spare" MGB shell to play with.

Not sure why these engines have such poor reputation according to some "Experts".

I think the poor reputation is misplaced, seems to be based on the reliability issues that they worked through from the very early Jensen Healey engines (have read that they agreed to supply them in order to work out any issues, without the car carrying the Lotus badge).

They developed that engine for some considerable time in various forms (couldn’t have been that bad) and even the early engines can be tuned to develop some pretty good power with no real reliability issues - modern machining techniques, improvements in oil tech, gaskets etc all help considerably.

Have an Excel with one in, 2.2 non Nikasil linered with a fully ported/flowed head, rods, pistons, balanced crank, cams and all the usual things done to a built engine - around 210bhp and still nice to drive on the road whilst having a decent increase over original.

You could build a 62 replica but you would lose the use of the gearbox, think that a tube chassis MGB would be pretty interesting. Maybe with bodywork similar to the 1990’s MGRV8 to really make people look twice...?!
Failing that, a retro rally replica - they did fit them into Talbot Sunbeams and Vauxhall Chevettes after all.

I cannot comment on your intentions with regards to the power train but back in the day I ran a Lotus Eclat 521, (2.0 ltr engine), for some 60,000 miles and it proved faultless. The only item I had to change due to failure during this mileage was the water pump.

I looked up the econo-box bodies, um, no.
Unfortunate that I recently gave up on a somewhat rusty Triumph GT6 I had and sold it too cheap.
Would have been ideal for fitting to a tube frame and this engine.
Trying to reduce the quantity of cars I have while increasing the quality.
But every time I let one go I end up regretting it.

I have decided which body I would want to wrap around a 907 engine.
Anyone have a lead on obtaining a Mk. VIII or Mk. IX fiberglass shell?
Seem to be a bit larger than an XI so easier to find correct width suspension.
I also like their Buck-Rodgers space-ship style.  ;)
