S1 owners manual in French

Yes, yes, it’s been a long time but I finally got the copies made.  They are very good with the only defects being any that were on the sample I had, and, a bit of a moire pattern in the one photo.  They are printed on the same glossy paper as the original and I have 20 copies.  Cost $10 + postage.  Priority given to actual S1 owners.*

Mainly to say thank you to John, my S1 manual arrived this morning in the post (UK) and it is amazing quality for a reproduction. The text and diagrams are sharp and clear, the pages white and crisp just as the originals were (or at least my TC one).

So thanks for arranging this John, it's a great addition to anyone's collection.

The front cover looks murky, right?  That's exactly how it is on my two originals!  The only difference between the copies and the originals is the slight moire pattern in the photo on page 2, that's it.

The first S1 manual I found was pretty beat up.  The second was from an ex-Lotus employee who had gotten it NOS from written-off factory stock.  I paid £500 for it -- fortunately when the £UK was low.  It was perfect bar a few minor blemishes.  That's the one I had duplicated.  As far as I know, there were no English copies.

£500    wow, now that is the mark of a true enthusiast.  But then again I suppose the chances of even a tatty one turning up is pretty remote so the market dictates prices.

The moire isn't that noticeable, I had to go back and look specifically after you mentioned it, it doesn't jump out at you.   

I don't know if I'm "teaching granny" here but when I scanned a load of adverts recently for a book I also ran into the same problem. It was probably linked to the dot spacing/patterns on the originals (all from 60s/70s magazines) but I found I could get rid of most of the effect by using the Gaussian blur in Photoshop and then altering lightness/contrast to give the illusion of sharpness.

Finally yes, I'm very happy with mine and I expect everyone else will be. Great job.

It is a very high quality reproduction and an interesting read.

I wonder if any handbooks were produced for other markets besides the French one. I've read somewhere that Lotus initially planned to sell all the Europas in France. As the heater control on the S1 is labelled 'Chauffage' this could be true.
