Can you flip a Europa?
« on: Saturday,January 09, 2021, 04:13:08 PM »
Apparently:

Slid off the road on a wet day.  Didn't even crack the windshield!

Even 47s get in on the fun...

(I think the windshield cracked on this one though)

Bummer!! Thankfully, there doesn't appear to be a lot of damage - at least, not as much as I would fear!

I would seriously doubt it!   I think we can ask Serge , he flipped his without a drivetrain.

That Europa looks remarkably unscathed.
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

It would be tricky turning the car the correct way up without causing further damage...

No one here.  From a French thread.  They have a large French Europa gathering every year and this happened on a wet drive.  Slid off the road and the wet grass and shape of the roadside bank did the work.  Not sure how they flipped it back.  There were a lot of them so they could just have picked it up.

I saw a similar website from the Netherlands where a guy let his younger brother drive his Europa...He ended up flipping it and causing only minor damage.

Is this one of the unsung advantages to Europas - that  you can flip them over and not do much damage?!

As flimsy as the roof is, I'm surprised that the occupants didn't suffer any injuries (at least I hope they didn't!). I guess the 'B' pillar helps a lot there.

I can't speak for the S2/TC/TCS cars but the S1 is enormously strong in the B-pillar area.

I suspect cutting the sails down on the TC didn't impact the strength of the 'B' pillar significantly - at least in the vertical plane.
