trailing arm bushing
« on: Saturday,June 18, 2022, 03:28:10 PM »
took my trailing arm bushing off to see its condition it felt loose on the europa
so i thought the rubber must be in bad condition but that’s not it the bolt is very loose in the trailing arm sleeve and in the bushing sleeve
im going to put a new bushing but i will still have loose in the trailing arm sleeve
i measured you can see in the pictures

For some reason, I guess to handle misalignment between the radius arm bush and the rubber bushing, the bores of the radius arm bush and the rubber bushing are not the same size. It’s a strange design but everything snugs up when you tighten it down.

i sort of thought the bolt should fit tight in the trailing arm the whole would have been reamed
the bolt is about .020 inch less than the trailing arm about .040 inch less in the bushing
the bolt was not very tight
it was probably not torqued properly wearing out the sleeve in the bushing
or my bolt
im pretty sure the sleeve on the trailing arm is not supposed to have that much slack .020 is a lot
and for the fit i figure the rubber bushing would align itself
im getting new bushing so im gonna measure to see the difference
i removed only one side so i don’t have anything to compare

update!! when i first dismantled the bushing the bolt was turning freely by hand i was told
to torque the bolt and there will be no movement except for the bushing doing it’s job so that’s what i did and it’s perfect
