Ignition options

I was looking at my options for my ignition system ,on my crossflow I know a lot of members use 123 programable distributors  but I find it a bit pricey ,I was looking at msd programable al6 programable
which is probably what was on my engine before I got it using a aluminium pulley with magnets connected to the cam and non magnetic sensor
But I just ran in to this cb black box it’s a programable ignition box they say you can use a points distributor lock it down remove vacuum and get the signal directly from there instead of recurving your distributor you lock it and program your own ignition curve and it really affordable to me it looks like the 123 except much cheaper in price
I’d like to know if anyone as used this and what do you guys think about it

I'll be selling a 123tune for half price in a week or so.  I wanted a bluetooth version instead.

I looked at the black box. Yes it is cheaper, but it is no where near as versatile as the 123 system.  I have had the Bluetooth version of the 123 for about a year and a half.  You can adjust your curve while actually driving by advancing or retarding the curve with the app on your phone. You can store multiple curves for different applications such as for type of fuel or economy.  All without opening the hood.  You get what you pay for. If you want the flexibility and the features, it is worth the cost.

thank you for your input Literarymadness to me the way this module was explained was that it was
an upgrade to a points distributor an external programable box that gets its signal on the original distributor instead of sending out your distributor for recurving I just want to set it once and not play with it
I asked a specialist  how much to recurve my distributor and the price did not make any sense
so this is why I was trying to find other alternative

@Calikid_66  If I am not mistaken, you can download the ignition app from the 123 site for free without buying the unit. This way you can see how it works without having to make the investment.  It is really user friendly.

Hi,I'm new to the site and just starting my second restoration on my 70 S2 with an 807 engine. Still doing design but (based on my earlier experience with points and such) I have decided to use the Megajolt as shown below. It might be slightly cheaper but does need a crank trigger, coil pack and ignition (EDIS) module. I don't have one and don't know any more than you can read on the various Megajolt sites. It does seem a good way to get rid of the points and distributor while adding a ton of programability. I'll likely be ordering one in the fall as I get my ducks in a row.

there is no place to put a crank trigger on the renault engine europa the crank as no pulleys in the front and the back it tied to the tranny
you could put the trigger wheel at the end of the camshaft but since it turns half as much as the crank
you would have to get a trigger wheel with twice as many teeth and wont be as precise as directly on the crank
 my spare engine as a trigger wheel with magnets it as four magnets on it i think the previous owner
use a non magnetic sensor and a msd programable much simpler system
