S2 water pump hook-up
« on: Saturday,February 15, 2020, 02:34:48 AM »
Hi guys,

I took my old water pump off and replaced it with a new one.
The new pump came with one pipe, on which I put the coolant line to the cylinder head.
For the other hole, there was nothing included in the set. What should I put in there, or where to route? I've seen pictures where it's routed to the carb, but mine is witted with DCOE Weber.
The old pump had sort of a bleed nipple in it, but it was leaking all the time and also the threads don't fit the new pump...

Should I just put a plug in it?

Those two connections are for the heater core. If you are not hooking up the heater, then put short short hoses on them and use them to bleed the system.

Don't hook either to the connection at the rear of the head.  That will just take hot coolant and bypass the rad.  The connection at the back of the head was to supply hot coolant to the carb baseplate for emissions purposes.

As John stated, outlet to the heater core, see photo.

Thanks!

I'm not using a heater, so ok to plug one, and make a bleed tube out of the other?

Don't hook either to the connection at the rear of the head.
Can I then put a plug in the head outlet too?

Yup, plug the head outlet.  I would fit bleeders to both the water pump outlets myself.  If you only want to have one, then make it the one circled in your photo above as that is the high point in the cooling system.
